But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore, it says, ‘When he ascended on high, he led captive a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.’
In the ancient Near East, conquering kings extracted tribute from their enemies and expected to receive gifts from loyal subjects. But Jesus Christ proved (and continues to prove) he is a very different type of king. He is the the King of Kings and he doesn’t lead his church in that way.
Our prayer as we begin to press into the New Year is our faculty, staff, students and supporters will consider this truth: our King demands no tribute and he expects no gifts from us. In fact, Scripture is clear the opposite is true. For those in Christ, he has apportioned gifts in keeping with the riches of his grace.
Each Gift adds a personalized
unique decoration to our tree.
